Reading Champions

Our Reading Champions work alongside their class adult with the support of our English Lead Mrs Harwood, to support in-school reading events, reading provision and to help our school community to foster our LOVE of reading.

Our Young Reading Champions

  • Select the two book options for daily class voting for our 'Let's Read' session each day
  • Audit the half termly additional Reading Boxes for each class
  • Advertise and support reading events such as book swap day
  • Promote and be champions for reading for events such as World Book Day and Pyjama-Rama day
  • Are great reading role models and ensure class book areas and reading pods are welcoming and tidy
  • Look after our school library to ensure that books are well looked after, interesting and the library is a welcoming and inviting space for all children to use each week
  • Lead by example and are excellent reading buddies for peers and other children

Adult Reading Champions

We also welcome and team of adult Reading Champions who share our vision for 'every child to be a reader'. Our volunteers come into school weekly to read 1:1 with children who will beneft from some precise and bespoke additional practice and support. Our adult reading champions are supported by our English Lead to implement the same practice and use them phonic skills to decode and comprehend the text and prosody to read with fluency and flair.
