St. Margaret’s C of E Junior School
At St Margaret’s Junior School, we use the ‘Charanga Music School’ scheme of work which supports all of the requirements of the National Curriculum and gives children access to a wide range of musical concepts and experiences. Our exciting curriculum aims to inspire our children and support them in fostering a passion for music.
Throughout their time at St Margaret’s, children will experience music from different times and cultures. They are taught about the different ways music can be structured, and how to recognise instruments and moods. The children have the opportunity to perform and compose a variety of tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments, as well as developing singing techniques for school productions and assemblies. Many cross-curricular links are made with music across the year groups.
Children are given the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments in lessons delivered by peripatetic teachers and paid for by parents. Steel pan lessons are provided by Warwickshire County Music Service and the tuition of other instruments is provided by Totally RAD. Children also have the opportunity to sing in the school choir, meeting once a week, with opportunities to perform for audiences throughout the year.
